Born in Ukraine in Ternopil, March 18, 1981. Graduated from the Ternopil
secondary school #18. In 2006 completed his postgraduate studies at the Department of Theory of Literature and Comparative Literature of the Faculty
of Ternopil National Pedagogical University named after Volodymyr Hnatiuk, which came after the same University in 2003. Subject of dissertation – “Typology and the Poetics of Network Literature and Modern Western Literature”. Awardment of Ph.D. took place on October 12, 2006 in Ternopil. Today he is an assistant of Journalism Department of the Philological Faculty of Ternopil National Pedagogical University named after Volodymyr Hnatiuk and the Chef-Editor of Publishing House “Krok” (http://krokbooks.com). Research interests – contemporary visual poetry and computer technology in art. Currently is an editor of scientific almanac “Studia methodologica”. He’s
one of the representatives of Lviv International Book Fair in Ternopil region.

Published 5 books of poetry: “Imovirnist” (1999), “yuryzavadsky” (2003),
“yuryzavadsky” (2005), “yuryzavadsky” (2008), “Rotvrot/Bocaaboca” (with
Andriy Antonovsky in Ukrainian and Catalan, 2010). Has a number of
publications in Ukrainian and Polish periodicals, such as “Literatura Plus”,
“Literaturna Ukraina”, “Alkos”, “Kalmius”, “Ha!art”, “Dzvony Lemkivshchyny”,
“Studia methodologica”, “Vsesvit”, “Sho”, and small students and youth
literary magazines. Author of one of the first hypertextual poems in Ukrainian
“Cyharky” (available at http://yuryzavadsky.com/73).

During studies (2000-2005) at the University was publishing the literary
magazin “Zvirshi”, that became the most unfluential youth literary periodic in
Ternopil region from the obtaining of the independence by Ukraine in 1991. It
was created to publish the most prominent young authors despite the style, experience, education and ideological orientations. In cooperation with poet Andriy Antonovsky created bilingual book of concrete and zaum poetry “Rotvrot/Bocaaboca”, that was presented during Blacksmith
Festival “Svyato Kovaliv” (Ivano-Frankivsk Ukraine 2010), “Barcelona Poesia” (Barcelona Catalonia Spain 2010), Fifth International Literary Festival in Lviv
(Lviv Ukraine 2010). The book was created by blacksmiths Vasyl i Misko
Hudyma, translator Catalina Girona and writer Carles Hak Mor. Book consists
of metalic forged cover and printed on special paper inner part with texts.

In 2010 Yury Zavadsky recorded the album with group “ZSUF” (electronica,
experimental, psychedelic music) under title “zsuf yuryzavadsky”, representing the first recorded Ukrainian project of such kind of music with sound poetry. The album is available for downloading at http://zsuf.org/.

The main streams of Yury’s poetical development are free verse, sound
poetry, spoken word, zaum, collage, visual poetry, concretism, multimedial
poetry, interdisciplinary forms, connecting blacksmith art, music, painting, theater. The style characterizes with complicated synthax, wide lexical
material, visual means using, elements of book art and performance.

As a translator and publisher works with authors from Poland, Australia, New
Zealand, Canada, USA, Fiji, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Russia, Belorus.
Translates from Polish, Russian, Belorusian, English. This year published
translations of poems by Piotr Macierzynski (Poland; separate book in
Ukrainian “tfu, tfu”, Ternopil 2011), Les Wicks (Australia; selected works in
journal “Vsesvit”, Kyiv 2011), Selina Tusitala Marsh (New Zealand; selected
works in almanac of International Literary Festival in Lviv, Lviv 2011).
Became the co-editor of translational projects:
• “AU/UA: Contemporary Poetry of Australia and Ukraine” (Ukrainian and

Since April 2008 manages literary generation “87 ′′. Provided master-classes with young authors, that grown as literary generation, called “87″. Five books by young authors were published since 2010. Poets were awarded during
several festivals and contests.

Poeta, informàtic i traductor, doctorat el 2006 en literatura moderna i la poesia a Internet. Els seus interessos literaris es centren en els moviments de l’avantguarda de principis de segle XX, i altres moviments històrics i actuals de la poesia concreta, la poesia sonora i la tecnologia informàtica en l’art. Fa una important tasca per promoure corrents experimentals.

Today – assistant of Computer Sciences and Teaching Department of Physical Science and Mathematics Faculty and asistant of Journalism Department of the Philological Faculty of Ternopil National Pedagogical University named after Volodymyr Hnatiuk.

Since April 2008 manages literary studio “87″ in V.Hnatyuk University.

Research interests – contemporary visual poetry and computer technology in art.

Currently is a member of the editorial board of scientific almanac STUDIA METHODOLOGICA.

Author of four poetical collections and hypertextual poem “Cyharky”.

Юрій Завадський – поет, літературознавець, кандидат філологічних наук, викладач ТНПУ ім.. В. Гнатюка. Автор поетичних книг: «Імовірність» (1999), «юрійзавадський» (2002), «юрійзавадський» (2005). Живе і працює в Тернополі. Книга, про яку йдеться, відповідно до харизми поета має назву «юрійзавадський 2008». Світ є у постійному становленні й оновленні, він твориться на наших очах й нашими очима. Тепер нема стимулу писати просто хорошу поезію, бо вона сьогодні відносна, й тому в певному сенсі, одноразова – прочитав і…забув. Покоління, що прийшло на зміну, ставить перед собою надзавдання, намагається відкрити принципово новий формат мистецтва. За нашого часу складно знайти справжнього розуміння цих пошуків: або відкидаєш будь-які прояви нестандартного письма, або в кращому випадку, придивляєшся обережно і…мовчиш. Питання формального визначення нової збірки Юрія Завадського стало одним із найскладніших – кожен другий співрозмовник, із котрим я обговорювала інновації поета, безапеляційно стверджував: непоезія, штукарство. Отакої! Я пішла іншим шляхом…

- Можемо називати се проектом. Але одного разу все може змінитися заради природи творчості, – порушити стереотип, зруйнувати усталене прийняття, забути про правила й зобов’язання, – літературна творчість окрема, вільна, аморальна. В перспективі ще одна книга, яку ось бачу перед собою на столі. поступово виводжу свого персонажа, навчаючи його говорити влучніше, менше, доречніше. Останнім часом переконуюся, що працюю як прозаїк, пишучи вірші, – виявляє страхітливе свавілля над текстом, що вдовільняє моє авторство. Допоки текст мені підкоряється – се проект. [..]
